Fishing at Langford Lakes Nature Reserve

Fishing at Langford Lakes, WWT/ Gary Mantle

Fly fishing
Day tickets are available for fishing on the river Wylye for wild Brown Trout and Grayling - catch and release only.

The River Wylye is one of England’s finest chalk streams. This half mile stretch is part of the Trust’s Langford Lakes Nature Reserve, and offers fishing for wild Brown Trout in spring and summer, and for Grayling in autumn and winter.

The aim of management of the river is as a sustainable wild fishery. The fishing is CATCH AND RELEASE only, and no stocking takes place. Existing diversity of riverine habitat has been enhanced by manipulation of the physical structure to encourage spawning of trout and grayling.

The fishing is often challenging where there is lush bankside vegetation, which is retained to provide habitat for fly life. Access is best afforded by wading (permitted until 30th November) but beware of a few deep hollows.

Coarse fishing
Coarse fishing is available through membership of the Langford Lakes Fishing Club, which is run by the Trust. Access for wheelchair anglers is available. For enquiries call (01722) 792011.

Brockbank Lake offers coarse fishing in the pleasant surroundings of  Langford Lakes Nature Reserve. Fishing is restricted to designated swims on the south shore of the Brockbank Lake. Access for wheelchair anglers is being developed. Annual membership of the Langford Lakes Fishing Club will entitle anglers to fish. NO DAY TICKETS are available, except for guests of members. NO NIGHT FISHING is allowed.
