Swindon energy project
The Swindon Energy Project aims to tackle fuel poverty and reduce climate change by providing home energy saving advice to the residents of Swindon particularly targeting young parents and young people.

Local young mum Lucy Rowe and son Sebastian present poster made by Lucy out of recycled materials to help promote awareness of climate change to other young people. Lucy is a volunteer for the Swindon Energy Project.
Some of the project’s aims are to:
*Reduce fuel poverty in Swindon (fuel poverty is where householders need to spend more than 10% of income on heating their home)
*Target young families and young people in Swindon with advice on home energy saving to reduce climate change and tackle fuel poverty. (Young families and young people make up 17% of the group suffering from fuel poverty)
*Raise awareness amongst professionals working with fuel poverty vulnerable groups
*Promote awareness of an impartial advice available through the Energy Saving Trust Centre on 0800 512012
The Swindon Energy Project is funded by the Scottish Power Energy People’s Trust and Swindon Borough Council.

The local Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre is able to advise householders on how to use energy in the home, whether they are trying to reduce fuel bills, warm up the house, or work out why they keep getting damp or mould patches.
It can be very easy to make a difference. For example, to insulate cavity walls only takes half a day. It immediately makes the home feel warmer, reduces condensation and can help to save up to £100 per property on annual heating bills. If everyone installed cavity wall insulation, we'd cut CO2 emissions by 6 million tonnes, enough to fill 1.2 million hot air balloons.
